Gov’t Plans to Sell KMC to Private Investor
Government is now seeking to sell Kenya Meat Commission to a private investor who will inject capital to revive the parastatal.
The country’s Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Kiunjuiri says that the privatization process will start in a few days and a taskforce has been formed to fast track the process .
“As government we do not do business. We simply aid organisations to be able to perform optimally and deliver to Kenyans and beyond,” he said during a press conference held on Wednesday.
Livestock Principal Secretary H. Kimutai added that privatising the firm will enable it more operational and beneficial and thus increase exports of animal products from Kenya to other countries.
“KMC has had its fair share of challenges which cannot be addressed in any other way other that through privatization,” he said.
The company which was revived in 2006 joins a list of 26 other parastatals which are set to be privatised.
