Ms Ngea is Appointed BAT Kenya Company Secretary after Ms Ngobi Resigns
In a letter dated May 9, 2018, British American Tobacco Kenya (BATK) informed the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) of the resignation of Ms Ruth Ngobi as company secretary of BATK’s board effective May 12, 2018.
In her place, Ms Waeni Ngea has been appointed as the new company secretary of the board effective May 13, 2018.
Ms Ngea joined BATK as legal counsel in 2014 offering legal support to commercial, marketing, and corporate operations. Before joining BATK, she was employed as legal counsel for Unilever Kenya Limited for 5 years.
Ms Ngea was appointed area head of legal for the firm’s East and Central African region effective April 1, 2018. Therefore, she will be holding the two roles since the BATK’s board wants to keep the role of company secretary in-house.
Ms Ngea is an advocate of the High Court and a certified public secretary with more than eight years of experience. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a postgraduate diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law.
“Ms W Ngea is a strong advocate for good governance and coupled with the experience she has gained from working within BATK’s operations […], in addition to giving counsel to BAT’s East and Central Africa regional operations, the Board of BATK is confident that she will be able to effectively discharge the tasks and responsibilities of company secretary,” the letter reads in part.
