Sonko issues sack threat over staff salary delay

City Hall normally pays its workers between 25th and 27th of every month but July salaries have not been paid by close of business Monday. Mr Sonko attributed the delay to the suspension of the head of Treasury and Chief Finance Officer last month, over misappropriation of funds.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has threatened to sack county workers who will not report to work over the delayed July salaries on Tuesday. Mr Sonko issued the notice Monday when he confirmed that a meeting with the Controller of Budget and the Treasury officials on Friday saw the authorisation of Sh1.084 billion for their July salaries.City Hall normally pays its workers between 25th and 27th of every month but July salaries have not been paid by close of business Monday. Mr Sonko attributed the delay to the suspension of the head of Treasury and Chief Finance Officer last month, over misappropriation of funds.“To all Nairobi county workers, take note that failure to report to work will result in summary dismissal from employment without notice and in accordance with existing Labour laws,” he said in a statement on Monday.
